7-Year Alzheimer's watch: blood test may spot memory decline early
NCT ID NCT07142954
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This 7-year study follows 3,400 adults who report no memory problems but may be at risk for Alzheimer's. Researchers will use a blood test measuring P-tau217, a protein linked to Alzheimer's, to see if higher levels predict faster cognitive decline. The goal is to better understand how the disease progresses before symptoms appear.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help identify early markers of Alzheimer's, leading to earlier detection and better monitoring of the disease.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly improve health. Results may take years and might not lead to new therapies.
