Heart failure and AFib: ablation or meds? small study seeks answers

NCT ID NCT04282850

First seen Jan 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This small pilot study looked at two ways to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib) in people with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). It compared a procedure called pulmonary vein isolation (ablation) with standard medication. The goal was to see which approach better improves exercise ability and reduces AFib burden. The study was terminated early with only 13 participants, so results are limited.
