Could a bladder rinse make emergency kidney stone treatment easier?
NCT ID NCT07617948
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether putting a drug called aminophylline into the bladder before placing a ureteral stent helps doctors get the stent past a blocking stone more easily. The trial involves 72 adults with sudden kidney failure from stones in a single working kidney. Half get the drug, half get a placebo, and the main goal is to see if the drug helps avoid a more invasive drainage procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Aminophylline
What this could lead to
If it works, this could make emergency stent placement easier and reduce the need for a more invasive kidney drainage procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The drug may not improve success rates and could cause side effects like allergic reactions.
