Can your own tooth help save your jawbone? new trial investigates
NCT ID NCT07239193
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests two bone grafting materials to see which better preserves the jawbone after a molar is pulled. One material is made from the patient's own extracted tooth, mixed with a blood concentrate; the other uses a standard bone substitute mixed with the patient's blood. The trial will enroll 24 adults aged 18 to 55 who need a molar removed and are otherwise healthy. Researchers will measure bone width, height, and density using 3D X-rays, and track pain levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Demineralized Dentin Matrix (DDM) with Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) or Mineralized Plasmatic Matrix (MPM)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a better, more natural way to preserve jawbone after tooth removal, potentially improving future dental implant success.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The materials are experimental and may not outperform standard options.
