Can a smartphone app spot asthma in ugandan kids?
NCT ID NCT07369817
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a mobile app called ALRITE that helps health workers in Uganda diagnose and manage breathing illnesses in young children. The app guides them through patient information and gives treatment recommendations. Researchers will see if using the app improves how often wheezing and asthma are correctly identified. The study involves 48 health workers at 4 clinics and compares data before and after the app is introduced.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ALRITE mobile health app
What this could lead to
If successful, ALRITE could become a practical tool to help health workers in low-resource settings better diagnose and manage childhood respiratory illnesses, especially wheezing and asthma.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 48 health workers at 4 sites, so results may not apply broadly. The app is a decision-support tool, not a treatment, and its impact depends on consistent use and accurate data entry.
