NCT ID NCT05862584
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study investigated whether air pollution affects flare-ups in people with rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or psoriatic arthritis. Researchers followed 86 patients for 6 months, asking them to complete weekly questionnaires about their symptoms. They also estimated each patient's exposure to air pollution based on where they lived and worked. The goal was to see if higher pollution levels were linked to more or longer flare-ups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If a link is found, it could point to ways to reduce flare-ups by avoiding pollution or adjusting treatments based on air quality.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study that only looks for a connection—it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to everyone with these conditions.
