Digital twins could help teens outsmart type 2 diabetes

NCT ID NCT07116902

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test whether an AI-powered 'digital twin' can accurately predict how type 2 diabetes progresses in young people aged 10-21. Researchers will create a virtual model of each participant using their health data, then compare predicted changes in blood sugar (HbA1C) to real results over one year. Half of the 50 participants will see their digital twin and get personalized lifestyle and medication recommendations, while the other half receives standard care. The goal is to see if this approach helps youth better manage their diabetes and avoid complications.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a personalized AI tool that helps youth with type 2 diabetes better manage their condition and slow disease progression.

What could go wrong

This is a small early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The digital twin predictions may not be accurate enough to change outcomes.
