Needles vs. nausea: acupuncture tested for Post-Surgery stomach paralysis

NCT ID NCT07505927

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether traditional Chinese acupuncture can help people whose stomachs stop working properly after partial stomach removal surgery. 176 adults will receive either real or sham acupuncture alongside standard care. The goal is to see if acupuncture shortens the time to recovery and eases symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and bloating.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

acupuncture

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a safe, drug-free option to help people recover faster from stomach paralysis after gastric surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a mid-sized trial (176 people) testing a traditional therapy against sham acupuncture, so results may be modest or not generalizable. Acupuncture is generally low-risk but may cause minor bruising or discomfort.
