Gentle pressure, less pain? acupressure may soothe kids during wire removal

NCT ID NCT07775547

Running, but no longer taking on new participants.

First seen Aug 20, 2026 · Last updated Aug 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether acupressure, a technique that applies gentle pressure to specific body points, can reduce pain, fear, and anxiety in children aged 6-12 during removal of K-wires (thin metal pins used to heal elbow fractures). Children will be randomly assigned to receive either real acupressure or a placebo touch. Pain, anxiety, and fear will be measured before, during, and after the procedure to see if acupressure makes the experience less distressing.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
acupressure (a non-invasive technique applying pressure to specific points on the body)
What this could lead to
If effective, acupressure could offer a drug-free way to reduce pain and anxiety in children during minor procedures like K-wire removal.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial, and acupressure may not prove more helpful than a placebo touch. Results may not apply to all children or procedures.
