Blood pressure drug may extend pregnancy in preeclampsia
NCT ID NCT05676476
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
The ACHIEVE trial is testing whether giving pregnant women with preeclampsia or high blood pressure medication to keep their blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg can safely prolong their pregnancy. The study will enroll 132 women between 23 and 35 weeks of pregnancy who have mild forms of these conditions. The goal is to see if this approach can delay delivery and reduce health problems for both mother and baby.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
antihypertensive medication
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that tighter blood pressure control helps women with preeclampsia stay pregnant longer, potentially reducing complications for both mother and baby.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (132 participants) and results may not apply to all cases. The intervention only manages symptoms, not the underlying condition, and there are always risks with medication during pregnancy.
