Can a common supplement help ALS patients stay independent?

Summary
This study tests whether acetyl-L-carnitine, a natural substance, can slow the loss of self-sufficiency in people with ALS. About 246 adults with early-stage ALS will receive either a low or high dose of the supplement or a placebo, alongside standard care. Researchers will track changes in daily function, breathing, and quality of life over 48 weeks.
