A new talk therapy aims to tackle both insomnia and PTSD in veterans
NCT ID NCT05194930
First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares a novel behavioral treatment called ABC-I (Acceptance and the Behavioral Changes to treat Insomnia) with standard cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) in veterans who have both PTSD and insomnia. ABC-I combines sleep-focused behavioral techniques with acceptance and commitment therapy to improve adherence. Researchers will measure changes in PTSD symptoms, insomnia severity, and sleep quality over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Acceptance and the Behavioral Changes to treat Insomnia (ABC-I) therapy
- What this could lead to
- If ABC-I works better than standard therapy, it could offer veterans with PTSD a more effective, adherence-friendly option for treating both insomnia and PTSD symptoms.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively early-stage comparison with 200 participants, so results may not generalize. The therapy is behavioral and requires active participation, which may not suit everyone.
