New scan could spot hidden prostate cancer spread

NCT ID NCT01543659

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested a new type of PET scan that uses a radioactive tracer called 89Zr-DFO-huJ591 to find prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, especially the bones. 77 men with metastatic prostate cancer received both the experimental scan and standard scans (FDG PET, CT, MRI, or bone scan). The goal was to see if the new scan could detect cancer more accurately and to understand how the tracer behaves in the body. Results may help guide future treatment decisions.
