Ultra-Strong MRI aims to spot hidden brain metastases before they grow

NCT ID NCT07175077

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a very powerful 7 Tesla MRI can detect tiny brain metastases earlier than standard 1.5 or 3 Tesla MRIs in people with small-cell lung cancer who choose not to have preventive brain radiation. Twenty participants will get a 7T brain scan followed by up to a year of standard scans. The goal is to see if the 7T scan spots cancer spread sooner, which could lead to faster treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
7 Tesla MRI scan
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that 7T MRI finds brain metastases much earlier, allowing for quicker treatment decisions without needing preventive radiation.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 20 people. The 7T MRI may not reliably detect more or smaller spots than standard scans, and results may not apply to all patients.
