New scan could spot hidden cancer spread
NCT ID NCT05562791
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether a special PET/CT scan using 68Gallium PSMA can find cancer that has spread in people with metastatic bladder cancer or melanoma. Twenty participants will receive both the standard FDG-PET/CT scan and the new 68Ga PSMA-PET/CT scan within 10 days. The goal is to see if the new scan detects at least as many cancer spots as the standard scan, which could lead to better imaging in the future.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- 68Gallium PSMA (a radioactive tracer for PET/CT imaging)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a more accurate imaging method for detecting cancer spread in bladder and skin cancers, potentially improving treatment planning.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small pilot study with only 20 participants. It is designed to see if the method is worth further study, not to prove it works. The new scan may not be better than the standard scan.
