New ultrasound technique could map heart and brain arteries without radiation
NCT ID NCT07193225
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new 3D ultrasound imaging method to map blood vessels in the heart and brain of people with atherosclerosis who are scheduled for carotid surgery. The goal is to see if this non-invasive, radiation-free technique can detect blockages and incomplete vessel networks as well as standard CT or MRI scans. Thirty-seven participants will receive an ultrasound contrast agent and undergo imaging before their surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
SonoVue® (ultrasound contrast agent)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a safer, non-invasive way to map blood vessels in the heart and brain, helping prevent complications during surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 37 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The imaging technique is still experimental and may not be as accurate as standard methods.
