New scan could catch hidden prostate cancers missed by MRI

NCT ID NCT07386496

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether adding a special PET scan (18F-PSMA) to an MRI can find more serious prostate cancers in men whose MRI results are unclear. About 250 men with suspicious but not definitive MRI scans will be randomly assigned to get either an MRI-guided biopsy alone or an MRI plus PET-guided biopsy. The goal is to see if the combined approach detects more high-risk cancers and changes treatment plans, such as whether to spare nerves during surgery or use targeted therapy.
