Breathing in xenon: can a special MRI spot lung healing in PAH?
NCT ID NCT06351345
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a special MRI using inhaled xenon gas can track how well the drug sotatercept repairs blood vessels in the lungs of people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Fourteen adults with PAH will have xenon MRI scans before and after starting sotatercept. The goal is to see if the MRI can measure improvements in lung blood flow, which could lead to a non-invasive way to monitor treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
sotatercept
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that 129Xenon MRI is a reliable way to track treatment effects in PAH without invasive procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 14 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The MRI technique is experimental and may not prove useful for routine monitoring.
