New adaptive radiation trial aims to spare prostate cancer patients from urinary side effects
NCT ID NCT06834152
First seen Feb 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This phase II trial is testing a type of radiation called online adaptive stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for men with localized prostate cancer who also have lower urinary tract symptoms or an enlarged prostate. The treatment uses CT or MRI scans to adjust the radiation beam in real time, aiming to reduce damage to nearby organs. Researchers will enroll 75 participants across multiple centers to see if this approach is safe, feasible, and effective at limiting urinary and bowel side effects.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy (online adaptive stereotactic body radiotherapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a safer, more precise radiation option for prostate cancer patients who also have urinary problems or an enlarged prostate.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase (II) study with only 75 participants. The main risk is that the adaptive technique may not reduce side effects enough, or that it may not control the cancer as well as standard radiation.
