Cold sore virus weaponized to fight breast cancer
NCT ID NCT02779855
Summary
This study tested whether injecting a modified cold sore virus directly into breast tumors during chemotherapy before surgery could help eliminate cancer more effectively. The virus is designed to attack cancer cells and potentially alert the patient's own immune system to join the fight. Researchers wanted to see if this combination approach, already used for melanoma, could benefit women with a hard-to-treat type of breast cancer.
