Cold sore virus weaponized to fight breast cancer

NCT ID NCT02779855

Summary

This study tested whether injecting a specially modified cold sore virus directly into breast tumors during chemotherapy before surgery could help eliminate cancer more effectively. The virus is designed to attack cancer cells and may help the patient's own immune system fight the tumor. Researchers wanted to see if this approach, already approved for skin cancer, could benefit women with a hard-to-treat type of breast cancer.
