Ancient remedies take on early puberty: can herbs and needles slow it down?

NCT ID NCT06510764

First seen Mar 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of Chinese herbs (Ziyin-Xiehuo granules) and tiny acupuncture needles placed under the skin can help girls with idiopathic precocious puberty. The 170 participants will receive either the herbs plus acupuncture or a placebo. Researchers will check if breast tissue shrinks and if bone age progresses more slowly over six months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Ziyin-Xiehuo Chinese medicine herbs and intradermal acupuncture

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a natural alternative to standard hormone therapy for managing early puberty in girls.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase 3 trial, but it's relatively small (170 participants) and uses traditional medicine, which may not work for everyone. The herbs and needles could cause mild side effects like skin irritation.
