Spleen scan could spare liver patients risky needle test

NCT ID NCT07122622

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 36 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a non-invasive ultrasound of the spleen can accurately detect dangerous vein swelling and high blood pressure in the liver. Researchers will enroll 450 adults with advanced chronic liver disease. If successful, this simple scan could replace the current invasive pressure measurement, making monitoring safer and easier for patients.
