Can cirrhosis make colon polyp removal riskier? a study digs into bleeding rates.
NCT ID NCT06832826
First seen Sep 04, 2026 · Last updated Sep 04, 2026
Summary
Researchers are reviewing records from 60 people with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension who had colon polyps removed during a colonoscopy. The goal is to see whether bleeding right after the procedure or in the following days happens more often in this group. The study also looks at the types of polyps found. The findings could help doctors weigh the risks before removing polyps in patients with advanced liver disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Colonoscopy polypectomy (removal of colon polyps during a scope procedure)
- What this could lead to
- If bleeding risks are better understood, doctors could tailor how they remove colon polyps in people with cirrhosis, potentially reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, single-center review of past cases, so its findings may not apply broadly. It does not test a new treatment, and bleeding risk depends on many individual factors.
