Sound waves open brain barrier to attack deadly tumors
NCT ID NCT05902169
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 33 times
Summary
This Phase 3 trial tests whether an implanted ultrasound device, SonoCloud-9, can temporarily open the blood-brain barrier to let more carboplatin chemotherapy reach recurrent glioblastoma tumors. About 560 participants will receive either the device plus carboplatin or standard chemotherapy. The main goal is to see if the combination improves overall survival.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Carboplatin (chemotherapy) delivered with SonoCloud-9 ultrasound device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective treatment option for people with recurrent glioblastoma by getting more chemotherapy into the brain.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but the approach is novel and may not improve survival. The device requires surgical implantation, which carries risks like infection or bleeding.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
