New mammogram technique could spot cancer earlier in survivors

NCT ID NCT06105749

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 42 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding a special type of mammogram (contrast-enhanced mammography) every two years to the usual yearly mammogram can find breast cancer earlier in women who have already had breast cancer. The trial will involve 1,500 women aged 30-79 who are at least one year past their breast cancer treatment. The goal is to see if this extra test improves cancer detection without causing too many false alarms.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) device

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more effective screening method for breast cancer survivors, catching cancers earlier with fewer false alarms.

What could go wrong

This is a diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. It may not show a clear benefit over standard mammography, and contrast agents carry a small risk of allergic reactions.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

breast cancer breast neoplasm female breast carcinoma neoplasm
