New scoring system could spot deadly infection early in liver patients
NCT ID NCT07024355
First seen Jan 30, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study aims to see if a new scoring system (the Mansoura score) can accurately predict a serious infection called spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) in people with liver cirrhosis and fluid buildup in the belly. Researchers will enroll 250 adults with cirrhosis and ascites, and check how well the score identifies those who truly have the infection. If successful, this noninvasive tool could help doctors start antibiotics earlier, reducing illness and death.
