First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looked at whether non-surgical gum treatment can improve smell and reduce tongue coating in adults with periodontitis (serious gum disease). 108 non-smoking adults received standard gum treatment, and their smell function and tongue coating were measured before and three days after treatment. The goal was to see if treating gum inflammation leads to short-term improvements in smell.
