Could a simple wash detect ovarian cancer sooner?
NCT ID NCT04794322
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 36 times
Summary
This study is testing whether DNA from a uterine wash and proteins in the blood can help detect ovarian cancer earlier. Researchers will collect samples from 250 women before surgery for suspected ovarian cancer or as a preventive measure. The goal is to see if these tests can tell the difference between cancer and benign conditions, which could lead to a screening tool for early detection.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new screening test that catches ovarian cancer earlier, potentially reducing deaths from the disease.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase biomarker study, not a treatment trial. The test may not work as hoped, and a larger study in symptom-free women would be needed to confirm any benefit.
Conditions
