First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study looks at why some people with liver cirrhosis develop dangerous blood clots in the portal vein (the main vein to the liver). Researchers will take blood samples from both the neck vein and the portal vein during a routine procedure called TIPS. They aim to compare clotting and inflammation at these two sites to better understand what triggers portal vein clots. The study involves 45 adults with cirrhosis who are already scheduled for TIPS placement.
