First seen Jan 15, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving the numbing drug lidocaine through a vein during and after liver surgery can lower pain and reduce the need for strong opioid painkillers. 124 adults having minor liver surgery were randomly assigned to receive either lidocaine or a placebo (salt water). Researchers measured how much opioid pain medication patients used and their pain scores after surgery.
