First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested a procedure to transplant insulin-producing cells (islets) into 14 people with type 1 diabetes who had already received a kidney transplant. The goal was to help them stop taking insulin and keep their blood sugar under control. Participants continued taking immune-suppressing drugs to prevent rejection of both the kidney and the new cells.
