First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested whether transplanting insulin-producing cells (islets) could help people with type 1 diabetes who already had a kidney transplant. Fourteen participants received islet cells along with steroid-free drugs to prevent rejection. The goal was to see if they could stop taking insulin and keep blood sugar under control one year later.
