Immune system clues could predict organ transplant success
NCT ID NCT03847285
First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether measuring immune function before and after a solid organ transplant (kidney, heart, lung, liver, or pancreas) can predict the risk of infections and graft rejection. Researchers will profile the immune system of 188 transplant recipients at multiple time points. The goal is to build prediction models that could one day lead to personalized immunosuppressive therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to personalized immunosuppressive treatments for transplant patients, reducing infections and rejections.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The prediction models may not be accurate enough for clinical use.
