Could your gut bacteria predict a stroke?
NCT ID NCT04803838
First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looks at whether bacteria living in your gut and mouth are connected to the risk of stroke in people with narrowed neck arteries. Researchers will measure certain waste products from these bacteria in the blood and track who later has a stroke or worsening artery blockages. About 290 adults with at least 50% narrowing of a neck artery are taking part. No treatments are given; this is an observational study to better understand the link between diet, bacteria, and stroke.
