Fish oil and metformin: a new hope for PCOS heart risks?

NCT ID NCT06424860

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking fish oil supplements along with the standard drug metformin can help protect the heart in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS often leads to high testosterone, which can cause blood sugar and cholesterol problems, raising the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The study will involve 146 overweight women with PCOS and will measure changes in artery thickness, plaque buildup, and heart function over time.
