Cheap pill could save millions from blindness, major trial launches

Summary
This study tests whether fenofibrate, a drug already used for high cholesterol, can stop diabetic retinopathy from worsening in people with mild to moderate eye damage. About 560 adults with diabetes will take either fenofibrate or a placebo for up to 6 years. If successful, this simple pill could reduce the need for eye injections or laser surgery.
