What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Glecaprevir-pibrentasvir (an oral hepatitis C medication)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that treating hepatitis C during pregnancy is practical and well-tolerated, potentially reducing mother-to-child transmission and improving long-term health for both.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to all pregnant women. Adherence may be challenging, and the study does not yet prove long-term safety or cure.
