Cranberry pills vs. antibiotics: which better prevents Post-Surgery UTIs?
NCT ID NCT03522961
Summary
This study aims to see if daily cranberry tablets work as well as the antibiotic nitrofurantoin at preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs) after pelvic surgery. Researchers enrolled 142 women who needed catheterization after surgery for pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence. Participants were randomly assigned to take either cranberry tablets or the antibiotic daily for up to 28 days, and neither they nor their doctors knew which treatment they received.
