Cranberry pills challenge antibiotics in Post-Surgery infection fight

Summary

This study aims to see if daily cranberry capsules work as well as the antibiotic nitrofurantoin at preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs) after pelvic surgery. It involves 142 women who need a catheter after surgery for pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence. Participants are randomly assigned to take either the cranberry supplement or the antibiotic daily for up to 28 days to see which group gets fewer UTIs.
