Common arthritis drug may delay heart valve surgery for millions
NCT ID NCT05162742
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study tests whether colchicine, an anti-inflammatory medicine, can slow the worsening of aortic valve stenosis—a common heart valve condition. About 150 adults with moderate, symptom-free valve narrowing will take colchicine or a placebo for up to 2 years. The goal is to see if the drug reduces calcium buildup and delays the need for valve replacement.
