Could a common gout drug soothe inflamed arteries in diabetes patients?

NCT ID NCT04181996

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested whether colchicine, an anti-inflammatory drug, can reduce inflammation in the arteries of people with diabetes or pre-diabetes who recently had a heart attack or stroke. 115 participants received colchicine or placebo, and researchers used PET scans to measure changes in artery inflammation over 6 months. The goal was to see if targeting inflammation could help prevent future cardiovascular events.
