New PET scan study aims to see inflammation in living brains

NCT ID NCT04396873

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 35 times

Summary

This study uses special PET scans to measure inflammation in the brains of people with diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS, compared to healthy volunteers. Researchers want to see if certain proteins called COX-1 and COX-2 are higher in diseased brains. About 184 adults aged 18 and older will join, undergoing MRI and PET scans over 1 week to 4 months. The goal is to better understand brain inflammation, not to treat it.
