AI takes on dentists in gum health showdown for prediabetes

NCT ID NCT06980701

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether artificial intelligence (AI) can give personalized toothbrushing and flossing advice as well as a dentist can for people with prediabetes. Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar is higher than normal but not yet diabetes, and it is linked to gum disease. The goal is to see if better home care can reduce gum inflammation and improve blood sugar levels. About 148 adults with prediabetes and at least 6 front teeth will be randomly assigned to get advice from a dentist or from an AI program, and their gum health and blood sugar will be checked over 9 months.
