NCT ID NCT06762730
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study tests whether a single intravenous dose of zoledronic acid can prevent the bone loss that often happens when people start HIV medications. Researchers will compare bone density changes over 48 months in 110 newly diagnosed HIV patients who either receive the drug or just standard follow-up. The goal is to see if this simple intervention can protect bone mass without long-term treatment.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, one-time way to protect bone health in people starting HIV therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small Phase 4 trial, and the benefit may be modest or not apply to all patients. Zoledronic acid can cause side effects like flu-like symptoms or kidney issues.
