Can yoga keep veterans Pain-Free for the long haul? new study tests coaching to make it stick
NCT ID NCT07053787
First seen Jul 16, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether yoga, with or without extra coaching, can help veterans with chronic low back pain keep up a home practice and enjoy lasting pain relief and better function. About 176 veterans will take weekly yoga classes for 12 weeks, and some will also receive one-on-one coaching to help them continue practicing on their own. Researchers will track pain, disability, and yoga habits for 18 months to see if the coaching leads to longer-term benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- yoga (hatha yoga with home practice and optional coaching)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that yoga with coaching helps veterans keep up a home practice and experience lasting pain relief and better daily function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-sized study without a placebo control, so results may not apply to all veterans. Long-term benefits depend on continued practice, which may fade over time.
