Summary
This study looked at whether a simple checklist called the YEARS algorithm can safely rule out dangerous blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism) in people with active cancer, without needing a CT scan. About 700 participants were randomly assigned to either the YEARS approach or the usual CT scan. The goal was to see if the algorithm could reduce radiation exposure and still keep patients safe from missed clots.
