NCT ID NCT07372183
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study will look at how well bone heals after a tooth is removed and a bone graft is placed, comparing smokers and non-smokers. Twelve adults will be enrolled to measure bone width and height, and analyze gene activity and tissue samples. The goal is to gather initial data to plan a larger study on smoking's impact on healing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help design a larger trial that may reveal how smoking affects bone healing after tooth extraction.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 12 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It is observational and not testing a treatment.
