Can your phone hear your baby kick? new app aims to monitor fetal movements
NCT ID NCT07626112
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study will test a smartphone app called Womb Watch that uses the phone's microphone to listen for fetal movements, like kicks, breathing, and hiccups. About 60 pregnant women between 28 and 40 weeks will record audio daily for 15 minutes. The goal is to see if the app is easy to use and if artificial intelligence can accurately detect movements, which could help monitor high-risk pregnancies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Smartphone application (Womb Watch app) using the phone's microphone
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a simple, at-home tool for pregnant women to monitor fetal movements, potentially reducing stillbirth risk.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early feasibility study with only 60 participants. The app may not work well across different phone models or in real-world conditions, and it is not yet proven to prevent complications.
