Can AI read ultrasound sweeps to tell Baby's position?
NCT ID NCT07754071
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to determine the baby's lie and presentation (head-down or breech) during third-trimester ultrasound exams. Pregnant women will have three extra ultrasound sweeps taken after their routine check, and the AI's predictions will be compared with the expert clinician's assessment. The study also looks at how clinicians perceive the system's usability and potential value.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- An artificial intelligence (AI) navigational support system that analyzes ultrasound sweeps to determine fetal lie and presentation.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this AI could help clinicians quickly and accurately determine fetal position during routine ultrasounds, potentially improving birth planning and reducing the need for expert assessments.
- What could go wrong
- This is a validation study, so the AI's accuracy is not yet proven. It may not match expert performance, and its usability and clinical value are still being explored.
